Cameroon Kills 41 Boko Haram Militants


Cameroon’s army has killed at least 41 militants as it fought off a wave of attacks along its border with Nigeria in an escalation in the conflict, the country’s Information Minister, Issa Tchiroma, said in Yaoundé on Monday.

Mr. Tchiroma said that the coordinated assaults on five towns and villages showed a change in tactics by Nigerian Boko Haram fighters, who have focused on hit-and-run raids on individual settlements in the past.

Gunmen Kill Ten In Southern Kaduna



Armed bandits shot and killed ten people in the violence-prone southern Kaduna area in Kaduna State on Saturday night. A few other victims sustained varying degrees of injury, according to a military officer who spoke to SaharaReporters.

In a telephone call to our New York office, the officer disclosed that the bandits shot and instantly killed ten people in Tataura, a small community in the Sanga local government area of Kaduna State.

Hackers release cache of 13,000 passwords and credit cards of PlayStation, Xbox and Amazon users


A gang of internet hackers claiming an affiliation with shadowy anarchist group Anonymous is claiming it has leaked the details of more than 13,000 users of Playstation, Xbox and online stores including Amazon.

The hackers posted a document online containing username and password combinations. They also added credit card numbers as well as expiry dates.

The group told their followers that they hacked the account details 'for the Lulz'.

They also claimed to have ripped a copy of The Interview which could then be downloaded illegally. Continue after the cut to see their tweets...

War in Enugu PDP is over, says Ekweremadu


Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, yesterday in Enugu declared that the rift between him and Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime is over.

Ekweremadu spoke while addressing thousands of his constituents and supporters including widows, members of Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), Jonathan Support Group (JSG), and Project Monitoring Group‎ (PMC) in his constituency, Enugu West Senatorial District; that he had reconciled with Chime to move the constituency and the state forward.

He announced that there was no more division and discrimination between‎ ‘Ekweremadu and Ikeoha Group’, and ‘Sullivan Group’, saying everybody belonged to ‘Ikeoha Group’ because he was the senator representing the zone, including Governor Chime.

Police arraign man for having fake $38,000

A 25-year-old man, Dare Samuel, has been arraigned by the police in a Yaba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, for trying to save a fake sum of $38,000 (about N7m) in a bank.

Girl Arrested Near Kano's Kantin-Kwari Market Wearing Explosive Vest



The girl, Zahra'u Babban Gida, claims she was abducted from Bauchi State. The girl, whose age has not been disclosed, alleges that she was unconscious until today, when she was released by her kidnappers and strapped to an explosive vest.

Following a recent string of bombings in Nigeria's northeast, security operatives today say that they have arrested a girl in Kano State with explosives attached to her body.

The girl, Zahra'u Babban Gida, claims she was abducted from Bauchi State. The girl, whose age has not been disclosed, alleges that she was unconscious until today, when she was released by her kidnappers and strapped to an explosive vest.

Bauchi Bomb Blast Update: At Least 15 Killed In Rush Hour Attack




In Bauchi, following the second of two major bomb blasts which took place in Nigeria on Monday, Dec. 22, at least 15 people have been killed, and 25 injured, according to police.


Occurring just hours after a morning blast in Gombe which 19 killed many and left others injured, the blast happened around 5:30 p.m. at a police outpost inside Bauchi Central Market.

A witness says he observed many of the victims, badly burned, being evacuated to the Trauma Center of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH).

Haruna Mohammed, police spokesperson, says no details are presently available.

Boko Haram releases new video showing killing of captured civilians


Less than one week after Boko Haram released a video threatening to kill the Emir of Kano, Muham­mad Sanusi II, horror and bestiality were on display in a fresh video the group released at the weekend.

The video showed gun­men killing civilians lying face down in a dormitory in cold blood, and a leader say­ing they were being killed because they are “infidels” or non-believers.

According to the Associ­ated Press (AP), there were so many corpses that the gunmen had difficulty step­ping to reach bodies still twitching with life. Most of the victims appeared to be adult men.

Breaking:Bus Station Bombed Again In Gombe




A bomb explosion has occurred again at another bus station known as Dukku motor park in Gombe metropolis.

Eyewitnesses told Saharareporters that the bombing killed several people and also injured as many as 40 others.

Boko Haram Kidnaps 185 Women And Children, Kills 32 People | CNN



Kano, Nigeria (CNN) -- Boko Haram insurgents kidnapped at least 185 women and children, and killed 32 people in a raid in northeastern Nigeria this week, local officials and residents said.

Gunmen in pickup trucks attacked the village of Gumsuri, just north of Chibok, on Sunday, shooting down men before herding women and children together. Poor women in Katsina, Nigeria

"They gathered the women and children and took them away in trucks after burning most of the village with petrol bombs," a local government official said on condition anonymity for fear of reprisal.

News of the attack took four days to emerge because of a lack of communication. Telecommunications towers in the region had been disabled in previous attacks.

Two Bomb Blasts Hit Jos



Double bomb blasts have rocked a market in Jos, Plateau State today.

The bombing took place at a Mr. Biggs roundabout on Ahmadu Bello Way.

"One would have said the causalities would be low, but since the ban on street hawking in Jos, [the area] gets crowded at night for late buying and selling," a source told SaharaReporters.

While officials have confirmed the attack, according to AFP, there has been no word on the causalities.

Explosion Rocks Kano Market



A security source in Kano town has just tipped SaharaReporters of an explosion in a market situated in Kano town.

According to the security source, the blast is reported at a market popularly known as Kwari Market, but the actual nature of the blast and casualty is yet to be ascertained.

“Our men are on their way and I will brief you as soon as we get comprehensive details.” Also, the Police spokesperson in Kano, DCP Bagiga said he could not immediately confirm the nature of the blast.

The incident is coming barely two weeks after bombers killed over 100 persons and injured about 150 at Kano Central Mosque located inside Emir’s Palace in the ancient town

Policeman tortures man, wife in Lagos


A police officer attached to the Ikoyi Police station has been accused of physically assaulting a couple, 29yr old photographer, Ejeh Smith, and his wife, Grace, 26. The couple said the policeman, identified as Dada Ogunsanya attacked them with his rifle along the Lekki Roundabout on Wednesday December 3rd.

According to Punch, the couple who are currently receiving treatment at a Lagos Hospital for wounds they sustained from the attack, said they were in a taxi on their way to their Parkview home when a 7-man Police patrol team at the Lekki Roundabout stopped their taxi.

Nigerian Troops Capture Boko Haram Hit List of town to be attacked, Sketches Kill 27 Militants In Hildi, Balmo Forest


Back to winning ways, which they lost in the fake cease fire agreement sometimes ago, Nigerian troops have captured documents containing a list of communities about to be attacked and sketches of the towns from fleeing terrorists in Adamawa State.

In two separate operations spanning Adamawa and Bauchi states, the troops also killed 27 suspected terrorists during fierce confrontations in a bid to rid the areas of insurgency.

During a hot pursue of the terrorists around Hildi, Adamawa State, at least seven of the terrorists lost their lives while a total of five rifles, hundreds of rounds of ammunition as well as bows and arrows were captured from them.Continue...

Housemaid abducts bosses’ two kids



A housemaid, identified simply as Juliet, has allegedly abducted the two children of her bosses who live on Gateway Crescent in the Magodo, Isheri area of Lagos State.

The 24-year-old housemaid was said to have fled home with the kids –Rafael (3), and 15-month-old Michael– who are nephews of a Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, on Sunday evening after their parents went out around 6pm.

Our correspondent gathered that the kids’ mother, Mrs. Onajite Esharegharan, and her husband, Elvis, had decided to go for a shopping on the fateful day in celebration of the latter’s birthday.

The terrifying moment man was mauled by lion at Barcelona zoo after he jumped into enclosure


This is the horrifying moment when a Spanish man risked his life by jumping into the lion enclosure at Barcelona Zoo.

The 45-year-old has been left with serious injuries after he was mauled by three of the animals for about half-an-hour before he could be rescued.

Dressed in military uniform, the man climbed over railings and began scaling one of the walls in the enclosure before being picked up by one of the animals and thrown into a pit.

The 45-year-old was rescued around 30 minutes later, covered in scratches and bite marks. He was taken to the city's Hospital de la Vall D'Hebron where he remains in a serious but not life-threatening condition. Continue for more pics and video...

Obasanjo's book is out


An attempt by Buruji Kashamu, a close associate of President Goodluck Jonathan, to stop the publication of a three-volume book by former President Obasanjo, appears to have failed as SaharaReporters can confirm that the book has gone into circulation. A source close to Mr. Obasanjo confirmed to SaharaReporters late last night that copies of the former president’s exhaustive autobiography were already available to buyers in print form. The source that the book would soon be available in an electronic version that is beyond the jurisdiction of Nigerian courts.

Boko Haram Abducts More Than 20 Girls In Lassa, Borno State


Insurgents belonging to the dreaded Islamist group Boko Haram last Wednesday abducted more than 20 women, most of them young girls, in Lassa, Borno State. A member of the community, Daniel Ibrahim, made the disclosure in a telephone call to SaharaReporters. A security source then confirmed the report.

“They [Boko Haram] abducted more than 20 girls from our town and killed many people, mostly old men and women,” said Mr. Ibrahim.

Mr. Ibrahim, who said he survived the attacks, revealed that the Islamist fighters had been advancing towards Lassa since late November, but had met stiff resistance from determined local fighters until Wednesday.

Newcastle end Chelsea’s unbeaten run

Unknown Gunnmen Attack Prison In Niger State, Free 270 Inmates


Unknown gunmen today stormed New Minna prison in Niger state and freed 270 inmates. The new Minna prison in Tunga area off David mark road in the state capital.  The gunmen  heavily armed gunmen invaded the prison complex around 4:30pm freeing 270 inmates. 63 inmates stayed back in the prison after the jail break.

Eyewitness account said  thre  gunmen stormed the front gate and overpowered the security guard at the prison, killing one prison warder and wounding another one.

Nigerian Military Intercepts Chad Bound Russian Plane Loaded With Arms


The Nigerian military has intercepted a Russian plane loaded with large amount of arms and ammunition, bound for neighbouring Chad, a security source has told PREMIUM TIMES.

The plane was seized early Saturday at the Aminu Kano International Airport.

The aircraft, which was headed for N’djamena, the capital of Chad, landed in Kano at about 2a.m. Nigerian time, the source said.

All crew members of the aircraft have been detained by Nigerian forces.

Daniel Obinim, pastor and founder of the International God's Way Church, is embroiled in scandal today after video surfaced of him stepping on and kicking the stomach of a pregnant woman.

Speaking in tongues, the pastor is believed to be trying to cure the woman of an affliction, though concrete information on the exact reason or date of the incident has yet to emerge.

In 2013, Obinim was arrested and brought before a court on seven charges, one being use of an offensive weapon. Two years before that, the pastor was again subject of scandal following charges that he had a sexual relationship with a junior pastor's wife.

Nigerian Troops Finally Clear Mubi Of Terrorists, Seek Civilian Cooperation



The Nigerian Troops have completed the operation to clear Mubi, Adamawa State of terrorists who  had mischievously renamed the town ‘Madina’ and operated in the town and the environs.

A mop-up operation is nevertheless ongoing to apprehend and deal with those who might be lurking around neighbouring communities.

Members of the terrorists group were dislodged after coordinated air and land operations in the area.

More special troops are being deployed to other areas in the North-East axis in similar coordinated air and land operations to rid the communities of terrorists’ activities.

President Jonathan Sends Frontline PDP Governors To Beg Most Prominent Critic, Obasanjo


President Goodluck Jonathan, who last week bragged that he was a better leader than Olusegun Obasanjo and every Nigerian leader since independence, today sent a powerful delegation to the former president to plead support for his re-election bid.

Obasanjo had described Jonathan’s presidency as below “average,” and that the “head” [of the government] was “rotten.”

His delegation to Obasanjo’s Hilltop mansion in Abeokuta today included governors Liyel Imoke of Cross River State, Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Babangida Aliyu of Niger and Isah Yuguda of Bauchi State.

Military Jet Bombard Boko Haram Insurgents As They Re-group To Attack Yobe State Capital


Air Force jets yesterday pounded Boko Haram insurgents  as they re-grouped to launch another attack on Damaturu the Yobe State capital.

Reports filtered into the town that the insurgents were regrouping at Garin Itace(firewood town) about 20km on the outskirts of Damaturu, to re-launch an attack on the town. The jet bombarded them.

Security sources said some local residents sighted the boys and alerted security agents who took proactive steps to attack the boys before their plans were hatched.

Bajoga in Gombe state under attack by Boko Haram


Bajoga town in Gombe state is currently under attack by Boko Haram members. According to reports, the militants came into the town in the very early hours of this morning, breaking into homes, shooting at people and blowing up things.

Bajoga is the host community for the Ashaka cement factory where the sect members visited some weeks back, stealing dynamites and other explosives.

Mu'azu, PDP Leaders Flee As Anti-Wike Protesters Storm National Secretariat With Coffin


The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party,  Adamu Mu'azu and other members of the party's national working committee abandoned their respective offices in Abuja on Wednesday  as angry party members from Rivers State took over the party's secretariat.

The only member of the NWC who managed to show up was Kema Chikwe, the woman leader, but she too did not spend up to three minutes at the gate as the protesters threatened to beat her up if she attempts  entering the premises.

Cairo Ojugboh, who oversees the party in the South-South zone, was also ordered to leave. He obeyed the order and promptly left the party secretariat for the protesters.

Military Destroys IED Laden Vehicle in Konduga


Provoked by the daring and antics of terrorists, the Nigerian troops have continued to rain devastating blows on their (terrorists’) hideouts and escape routes.

Wednesday morning, the troops in Konduga, Borno State destroyed a vehicle laden with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) meant for a suicide bombing operation by the terrorists.

This is the latest incident in the series of recent attempts being made by terrorists to make incursions into the town and other surrounding communities.

Gunmen invade Nasarawa village, kill 12


Reports reaching DAILY POST say about 12 people have been killed in an early morning raid on Ashigye, a settlement on the outskirts of Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

The invaders, suspected to be cattle herders, reportedly attacked Migli farmers who set out to harvest their crops on farms along a bush path leading to Ashangwa and Amawo, near the state capital, survivors of the attack who fled to Lafia said.

According to the survivors, the marauders attacked Ashigye from different directions and opened fire on a convoy of four J5 Peugeot mini buses conveying farmers to their fields for yam harvest.

Fire Guts Port-harcourt Major Market


Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed in an inferno that gutted the Rivers state Newlayout Market in town axis of Port Harcourt.

The course of the fire is still unknown but DAILY POST gathered that the fire disaster occurred around 8pm (Tuesday night).

Chairman of the market, Jack Robinson said the fire may have started with a spark from one of the shops after power was restored.

Four die as thugs clash during APC primaries

Like a war scene, continuous gun report tore through the air in the Ebute Meta area of Lagos State on Tuesday afternoon.

As residents ran helter-skelter in the ensuing confusion, four youths were shot dead, while several others were wounded, as 20 vehicles were also vandalised on four streets, namely Kano, Ondo, Odunfa and Ibadan.

Our correspondent gathered that the crisis was the aftermath of a primary election conducted for two candidates of the All Progressives Congress ─ Oladele Adekanye (Lado) and Bashiru Oloto.

300 Boko Haram Militants Killed in Yobe Attack


More than 100 Boko Haram members may have been killed in Damaturu, following Monday’s deadly attack on the Yobe State capital.

That number could be even higher, as the Hausa service of the BBC is reporting over 300 members of the militia to have died in the battle.

Sahara reporters also learned that thirty three Nigerian policemen and some medical personnel are among those who died in the violence. Continue...

Court sacks all Ebonyi Council Chairmen, Councillors



A Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, on Tuesday sacked all the 13 local government chairmen, vice Chairmen and Councillors elected in last year’s council elections in the state.

The court, in a judgment delivered on the suit filled by one of the candidates in the election, Mr Alieze Nweka of Ohaukwu local government area, ruled that the open ballot system used in the conduct of the exercise was inconsistent with the electoral law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

It consequently nullified the council elections conducted across the thirteen council areas on September 28, 2013.

Food Vendor Chops Off Maid’s Finger For Allegedly Stealing Meat


For stealing what she described as the biggest chunk of meat in a pot of soup, a food vendor, simply identified as Mama Jennifer, at the weekend chopped off a finger of one of her maids around Akuose New Layout Ibuso/Asaba axis of Delta State, a 10-year-old known as Ndozi.

Reports said that residents of the area rushed to the scene by the cry of the teenager.

Kenyan Police Chief resigns over today's killings, interior minister fired


Following the killing of 36 people by terror group Al-Shabab this morning in a quarry in Mandera, North of Kenya, Kenya's National Police chief, David Kimaiyo has resigned.

After receiving the police chief's resignation letter, Kenyan president, Uhuru Kenyatta announced the dismissal of Kenya's Interior Minister with immediate effect. (Pic from the scene above)


According to AP, President Uhuru Kenyatta has named an opposition politician and retired army general, Joseph Nkaissery, as new Interior Minister, in charge of security.

Al Shabab terror group this morning invaded a quarry in Mandera, north of Kenya, separating the Christians from the Muslims and shot dead the ones who couldn't recite the Qur'an.

Two weeks ago, the terror group attacked a bus and killed 28 Christians.

Soyinka likens President Jonathan to ‘Nebuchadnezzar’


Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, has lambasted President Goodluck Jonathan for allowing what he called a reign of impunity, the latest being police siege on the National Assembly.

Mr. Soyinka said the latest action of Suleiman Abba, the Inspector General of Police, against members of the House of Representatives was an “unambiguous” declaration of war against the people.
At a press conference in Lagos he titled King Nebuchadnezzar – The Reign of Impunity, Mr. Soyinka said that the battle line had been drawn and Nigerians must decide whether to submit or resist to the current democratic dispensation.Continue...

Boko Haram attacks Konduga town in Borno state


Barely 24 hours after suspected members of Boko Haram detonated two bombs at the Maiduguri Monday market killing more than 10 people, the sect members launched another attack on Konduga village in Borno state. The attack started in the early hours of today Dec 2nd.

The sect members had tried to invade this particular village in September but the Nigerian military had stopped them, killing 150 of their members. Konduga is about 35km away from Maiduguri, the state capital.

Female Suicide Bombers Attack Maiduguri Market Again



Two female suicide bombers have attacked Maiduguri again near a market where they killed several people last week.
 SaharaReporters learns that the two female bombers carried the explosives in the back of their hijab dress,  arrived a hair braiding salon and blew themselves up as a female civilian-JTF operatives made to search them. 

Scores dead as Boko Haram attacks Damaturu




 

Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, has been attacked by the dreaded Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram.

A military source in the town said scores of insurgents flooded the town from Gujba, a stronghold of the sect.

He said they attacked the town as early as 4am on Monday, trying to take control of the security facilities. According to him, they attacked the Police Mobile Unit where they exchanged gunfire with the police on duty.
