Survivors of Boko Haram killing and kidnapping in villages describe ordeal

Boko Haram survivors say Boko Haram extremists bombed out of forest camps are attacking remote northeast Nigerian villages, killing scores and kidnapping hundreds of women, children and young men.

Farmer Muhammad Ali says militants armed with guns and swords took away his wife and two daughters, aged 9 and 3, from Abbacheri village.

He is among 400 refugees who say the attacks started a week ago and they walked for six days to reach safety.

A police officer says at least four ailing and malnourished children have died among refugees in Jakana, a village 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of Maiduguri city.

Nigeria's air force has been bombarding camps in Sambisa Forest as soldiers launched a ground offensive.

Oil thieves jailed for 84 yrs


Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday convicted seven men to 84 years imprisonment for illegal and unlawful dealing in 1,459 metric tonnes of petrol. The court sentenced each of the convicts to a jail term of 12 years each starting Friday after they were all found guilty of the five count charge preferred against them.

Cross River Govt suspend Perm. Secs. over suspension of morning devotion in schools


The Cross River State government has indefinitely suspended the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Education Anne Odey, who last week released a statement suspending all forms of morning devotion in schools across the country.

Fake Naval Officer Nabbed With Hilux Van In Enugu State

Abacha's loot is too huge for us to handle - World Bank

The World Bank has asked for more time to provide a detailed report on the loot of former military dictator, Sani Abacha, saying the loot is too huge for it to handle. The World Bank said this in response to a request by civil society group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) asking for a comprehensive document detailing all the loots of the former military dictator which is estimated at $11.3 billion and stashed in foreign banks.

NNPC staff shoots boy dead for ‘chasing’ daughter


    CALABAR—TONGUES are wagging in Calabar, Cross River State, over why the police are yet to arraign in court a dismissed staff of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, who allegedly shot dead a 22-year-old secondary school leaver, Douglas Ochaga Ojugbo, on March 10, for hitting it off with his daughter. Health officials from Calabar Urban Development Authority, CUDA, buried the remains of Douglas, who was preparing to write his 2015 JAMB-UTME examination, in a shallow grave on the orders of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in the area without identifying him. The DPO said the killer informed the police that Douglas was an armed robber, who came to rob him in his house.

Some pro-Biafra activists under the aegis of Indigenous People of Biafra have threatened to destroy the Nigerian embassy in India over the detention of the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

The father died few hours later at a private hospital in the area after hospital authorities bluntly refused to give first aid treatment, insisting on the presentation of a police report.

Ebonyi tribunal upholds election of Ebonyi Speaker


ABAKALIKI—THE National and State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abakaliki, Tuesday, dismissed the petition filed by Mr. Godwin Nwankpuma challenging the Election of the Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Francis Nwifuru.

Delivering judgment on the matter, the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Joel Agya held that Mr. Nwankpuma failed to prove  allegations of corrupt practices and non- compliance with the Electoral Act which according to him marred the Election substantially.

5 killed as cultists unleash mayhem in Lagos


LAGOS—Suspected cultist have reportedly killed five persons in different areas of Igbo-Elerin, Lagos State. The cultist allegedly went on rampage after a rival gang on Thursday, shot their leader who was  identified as Skay, at Aladesanmi Street. Angered by the death of their leader, members of the gang on Friday at about 7am, stormed a house located at Martins street where they dragged a member of a rival cult gang out of his house and slaughtered him in front of his gate. Fatai, who has been arrested by the Oyo State Police command for various Internet crimes, including hacking into bank accounts of many people in and outside Nigeria, had once been arrested for robbery and arraigned in court but granted bail.

Female NTA Newscaster Disarms Robber

    A suspected armed robber is now in police net in Benin, Edo State, after the lady he attempted to rob disarmed him. The victim, a female newscaster with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), was said to have given the suspect, identified as Stanley, the fight of his life when he tried to rob her. She succeeded in collecting the robber’s locally-made pistol from him.

    The suspect was handed over to policemen from Oba Police Station, Benin. During interrogation, Stanley mentioned names of his gang members. The police went after the gang and arrested five members. The leader of the gang is, however, still at large. The newscaster, who wished to remain anonymous, said she went to Benin from Lagos, for a wedding when the incident occurred.

Police Arrest Five for Packaging, Selling Adulterated Water to Banks, Companies


 Operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), weekend, arrested five suspects, Chukwuma Offor and Ofonime Ikpe, and three other accomplices, who specialise in packaging adulterated water in dispensable jars and sachets and selling them to unsuspecting banks and companies.

The suspects were arrested at no 3, Adesola Street, Ago-Palace Way, Okota in Lagos, following a tip-off to the RRS operatives by the producer of the water that was adulterated by the suspects.

Two Nigerians Arrested In Fake Currency Scam In The UAE (Photo)


Two Nigerian men living in Sharjah, the third largest city in UAE after Dubai and Abu Dhabi have been arrested after UAE police raided their apartment and recovered a large number of fake $100 bills.

A senior police officer said the culprits used the fake currency to convince people that they could double their money and make them rich. The two men, reportedly, used to meet people in an apartment in Sharjah and convince them that they had the ability to double money.

Four female suicide bombers die after a failed attempt to attack Maiduguri today

Four Female suicide bombers lost their lives in a failed attempt to bomb Dala Yazaram community in Maiduguri today. This comes barely 24 hours after 55 people were killed in separate suicide bomb attacks in Maiduguri in Borno state and Yola in Adamawa state.

Eyewitnesses say four female suicide bombers made an attempt to attack the area but one of them was arrested before she detonated the bomb on her. She later died. “Three people have been killed and many injured. One of the terrorists was arrested before she could detonate,” resident Shuaibu Umara, a security guard at a nearby NNPC petrol station, told AFP

    The Department of State Services has arrested 45 suspected Boko Haram members in connection with a foiled attack on Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos in September.

    The DSS also charged the suspects to a Lagos State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Isolo on Friday and the court ordered the remand of the 45 suspects in Kirikiri prisons in the state.

Doctor Godwin Maduka Builds 100 Houses For Widows & Less Privileged In Anambra

    A Nigerian medical doctor based in the United States of America, Godwin Maduka, has built no fewer than 100 bungalows for widows and other indigent persons in his Umuchukwu community in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.

Boko Haram seizes town on Cameroon-Nigeria border


Boko Haram Islamists on Friday seized control of a town in the far north of Cameroon which lies on the border with Nigeria, security and regional sources said.

“They now control Kerawa,” a security source told AFP on condition of anonymity, referring to the Nigerian Islamist group.

The information was confirmed by another source close to the regional authorities, who said an unspecified number of civilians had been killed in the assault.

Nigerian military issues third “final” warming to Boko Haram


The Nigerian Military on Tuesday issued what it described as “Final Warning” to Boko Haram terrorists to desist from acts of terrorism, surrender themselves and face the law.

The latest warning is third in the series of “final” warnings the military has issued and it came as President Muhammadu Buhari’s dateline to rid the country of insurgents approaches.

President Buhari had ordered the military high command to clear the country of the last vestiges of Boko Haram by December.

Secondary school students attack Corp members with cutlass in Abia


NYSC Corp members serving in Ibeku High School of Umuahia North Abia state were on Thursday attacked by some students of the school suspected to be cult members.

The students had struck the Corps Members in their lodge situated within the school compound armed with cutlass and locally made guns.

Scores feared dead in bomb attack on worshippers at Yola Mosque


Many worshippers are feared dead in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, after a bomb attack on a Jumaat mosque in Jimeta area of the city.

The explosion occurred as worshippers were observing the weekly Jumaat service, and many worshippers are feared dead and injured.

Twin bomb blasts hit Maiduguri mosque, kill many


Another early morning bomb attack has occurred in a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno state, killing and injuring many worshippers during the early morning prayer session, witnesses said.

The blasts, according to residents occurred in Jiddari Polo area at about 5am when Muslims were performing the first congregational prayer of the day.

Details of casualties are still sketchy as security officials have cordoned the area while rescue and aide workers tried to evacuate corpses and injured victims.

Nigerian troops, hunters kill 150 Boko Haram terrorists in Madagali, Gwoza


Self-defense fighters say they fought alongside Nigerian soldiers to kill 150 Boko Haram militants and rescue 36 child and women captives of the Islamic uprising in the country’s northeast.

Jubilant civilians who participated in Tuesday night’s assault said they went to the Madagali and Gwoza areas acting on intelligence that the extremists were planning a large attack.

NAFDAC closes Illegal Chinese factory producing mosquito coil in Kano


The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed up a Chinese company involved in the production of unregistered mosquito coils in Kano.

The coils are sold to the public under the brand name: “Wavetide: Plant Fiber Mosquito Coil” and are sold in most of the markets in the state.

Boko Haram survivors suffer from fear and stigma


Kabiru, a tall man in his late 20s, is exhausted. With a group of men, he has to prepare food for about 2,000 displaced Nigerians living in Gombyo camp.

Kabiru, who goes only by one name, pours water in a large pot of rice. His task is to ensure there’s enough firewood and water to keep the rice boiling. It’s hard work, especially under the searing sun in northeastern Nigeria.

More than two million people have been displaced in the region since 2009, when the armed Boko Haram group launched military operations to overthrow the government and create an Islamic state in the northeast.
