Video: Watch the moment 'dead' 3-year-old girl wakes up at her own funeral

A cellphone video has captured the incredible moment a 3yr old girl woke up during preparations for her own funeral in a church in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, in the Philippines. The girl had been declared dead by doctors at a local hospital on Friday July 11th after being taken there the day before suffering from a fever for several days.

Her parents took her to the church the next day, with family and friends gathered for the burial when the unthinkable happened. It was only when one of her parents' neighbours removed the lid of the coffin to arrange the girl's remains that she saw the little girl's head move. She immediately alerted the girl's father who quickly removed her from the coffin and took her to hospital. It was later found that the girl was in a state of comatose, not dead. Boko Haram leader claims responsibility for Lagos, Abuja explosions

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has claimed re­sponsibility for two explosions at a fuel depot in Lagos on June 25, AFP re­ported yesterday.

The police had stated that the explosions were an acci­dent caused by a gas canister.
In a fresh video, Shekau, who was flanked by about 10 gunmen in front of two ar­mored personnel carriers and two pickup trucks, stated: “A bomb went off in Lagos. I or­dered (the bomber) who went and detonated it.”

In the video, Shekau taunt­ed Governor of Lagos State Babatunde Fashola, who he wrongly called Adams Osh­iomhole, stating: “You said it was a fire incident. Well, if you hide it from people you can’t hide it from Allah.”Continue...

$49bn oil fund not missing – SENATE

The Senate, yesterday, cleared the air on the alleged missing $49 billion oil revenue as it said there was no missing fund as alleged, but un-remitted funds which should be remitted to the Federation Account.

The Senate, while adopting the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led Finance Committee report on the alleged missing money as claimed by the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who is now the Emir of Kano, also rejected the Federal Government’s plan to remove the subsidy on the petroleum products, saying government should embark on sensitisation of the public because of the effects it would have on the common man.Continue...

Lagos command arrests robbers using police uniforms

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested members of an armed robbery gang, who made use of Mobile Police uniforms to perpetrate their acts in the state.

The four members are Julius George, Samuel Orgah, Lucky Oliseh and Lucky Friday. Our correspondent learnt that they were rounded up on Sunday, June 22, at the Ile Zik area on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

It was further gathered that the suspects were arrested following a tip-off to the Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, who directed men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, led by SP Abba Kyari, to go after them.Continue...

Ebonyi- Armed robber caught, beaten by mob

 Armed robbers allegedly broke into an Accountant's car in Ebonyi State Universal Basic Education Board Abakaliki and made away with 500,000 naira.

The robbers had followed him from the bank to the office where he parked his car, broke the side windscreen  and took the said amount as they were about to run away, a staff who had noticed some strange movements around the car called for the Security men to close the gate as they were about to leave but they forcefully hit the gate with their car and immediately one of them, the one carrying the money came out of the car and entered a bike whose rider is supposed to be one of them and the other as he was about to run away was caught by a staff of the Board before other people gathered and started beating him. He was about to be set ablaze when the police arrived and he was handed over to the police.Continue for more pics... 

DSS parades suspected kidnappers of Jonathan’s uncle, others

The Department of State Services has apprehended six kidnappers of Chief Nitabai Inengite, an uncle to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Inengite was abducted at Otuoke community in the Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State in February, 2014.

The kidnappers, who were paraded at the DSS headquarters in Abuja on Thursday include a 400-level undergraduate of the University of Jos, Plateau State, Eldred Jonah,30; Raphael Inengesi, 32; Ibeabuchi Inya,29; Oreva Abridi 29; Tammy Agbai,29; and a native doctor, Felix Onuoh,48.

The Service also paraded another set of kidnappers that were involved in the abduction of two sisters, Ejura and Unekwu Opaluwa at Karmo, Abuja on June 8, 2014.Continue...

Ogun cops arrest 1,227 suspects, recover N77m

The Ogun State Police Command says it arrested 1,227 suspects for various crimes across the state and recovered N77m between January and June 2014.

Briefing PUNCH Metro on Tuesday on the activities of the police, the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, explained that among the suspects, 157 were arrested for armed robbery, while others were arrested for crimes such as murder, stealing and fraud.

Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, added that within the period, the command   arrested 26 suspected rapists, 57 cultists and killed 24 robbers.Continue...

Robbers kill 2 policemen, cart away money in 3 ATMs

Armed robbers, last weekend, attacked a bank branch in the premises of University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, carting away millions of naira from the bank’s Automated Teller Machines, ATMs.

It was gathered that two policemen on duty that night were killed while the private guards were bound and locked up inside the strongroom in the bank.

But a lady, who was in the company of the private security guards at the time of the robbery, sustained gunshot wounds.

The incident which occurred barely one month after a similar robbery attack on another bank branch on the campus, Vanguard gathered, has generated anxiety among residents of the university community.Continue...

Two injured as new school building collapses in Osun

Residents of Ejigbo town in Osun State were on Wednesday woken up by the noise of the structure which collapsed at the newly completed Ejigbo High School.

Our correspondent gathered that part of the school which had been completed and ready for inauguration collapsed at around 5.30am.

Some persons were reportedly injured, but there was no death recorded as the structure had yet to be occupied by pupils.Continue...

Hunters help 30 more women to escape from Boko Haram

There were indications yesterday that 30 more women may have escaped from the Boko Haram camps in Sambisa Forest, Borno State.

This is coming barely three days after 63 women and children reportedly escaped from the militant group.  According to reports quoting military sources, the escapees were helped by hunters to flee the insurgents’ camps.

A military source stated: “All 32 escapees and the hunters who helped them to  escape are currently with the soldiers.” Continue...

Shocker in Boko Haram Balmo Forest camp

Security operatives have started interrogating prominent politicians following discovery of their identity cards and other documents in Balmo Forest, Bauchi State, where insurgents camped before they were flushed out by the military last week.

Revealing this yesterday, Coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mr. Mike Omeri, said, “following the last successful operations carried out by security forces to dislodge terrorists from their forest bases in Darazo Local Government Area end of Balmo Forest, some politicians are currently being investigated following their link with activities in the forest.

“The politicians are being interrogated following the recovery of some sensitive registration cards and other materials of a prominent political party that were found in the possession of some of the suspects.Continue...

Fifa hammers Nigeria, Suspends NFF indefinitely

Fifa Emergency Committee has announced that it has suspended the Nigerian Football Association with immediate effect due to alleged “government interference.”

“The decision follows a letter sent by FIFA to the NFF on 4 July 2014, in which it expressed its great concern after the NFF was served with court proceedings and consequently an order preventing the president of the NFF, the NFF Executive Committee members and the NFF Congress from running the affairs of Nigerian football was granted by a High Court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” a statement read.

“The said court order compelled the Nigerian Minister of Sports to appoint a senior member of the civil service to manage the NFF until the matter was heard in court, without giving any date for such a hearing. The authorities then appointed a person who decided to convene an extraordinary general assembly on 5 July 2014.Continue...

Soldiers rampage: Army states own side of the story, flays Soyinka

The Nigerian Army have released a statement explaining their side of what transpired last Friday July 4th where soldiers allegedly beat up some civilians and set some BRT buses ablaze.

The statement signed by Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Omale Ochagwuba, says contrary to reports, the Lance Corporal killed by the BRT bus was driving on the main road used by other motorists and not on the lane reserved for the BRT buses. It also denied the army officers being responsible for setting some BRT buses on fire. The statement reads in part;

"On July 4, a Lance Corporal of Nigerian Army, who was on his way to the office on Ikorodu Road around Obanikoro area between 6:30 and 6:45am, was knocked down and killed by a BRT bus with number plate KSF 995 XJ. It is pertinent to state here that the late soldier was riding a power bike approved by the state government and he was neither riding inside a BRT lane nor was the BRT bus that killed him driving inside the BRT lane. The innocent law-abiding soldier was killed on the normal lane being plied by everybody as against what is being alleged by some sections of the media. Continue..

Chibok girls’ll be rescued soon –Jonathan, Obasanjo, others

The Council of State, made up of former heads of government, on Tuesday held its second meeting in the year and came out with a promise that the abducted pupils of Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, would soon be rescued.

More than 200 girls were seized from the school on the night of April 14 by members of the terrorist Islamic sect, Boko Haram. The incident has attracted global condemnation and protests. Almost 90 days in the custody of the terrorists, there have been many not-too-pleasant stories about the welfare of the girls.

But briefing journalists at the end of the Council meeting, presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan, Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio said the military high command had given assurances that the girls were safe and would soon be rescued.Continue...

Cross River police arrest 19 ‘one chance’ thieves

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested 19 suspects who specialised in robbing people in commercial vehicles.

The act, popularly referred to as one chance, is a menace that has long faced residents of Calabar.

It was gathered that their modus operandi was posing as commercial motorists and robbing unsuspecting commuters, who entered the vehicles, of their money and other valuables.

The police said on Tuesday that four vehicles were also recovered from the suspects.

The suspects comprised 11 men and eight women. They were from Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Abia, Anambra and Delta states.Continue...

Gunmen invade UNILAG, shoot student

Some yet-to-be identified gunmen threw the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos, into chaos on Monday after they invaded the King Jaja Hall area of the institution and shot at students.

Although it was not clear whether the attack was carried out by cultists, our correspondent gathered that a student was shot in the head in the mayhem.

The student, who was identified as Sapara, was said to be a final year student of Philosophy. Eyewitnesses said Sapara’s face was covered in blood after a bullet scraped the side of his head.

It was learnt that the victim was subsequently taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, where he was said to be in stable condition.Continue...

Police parade suspected baby factory operators in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command on Tuesday paraded three pregnant women and a 36-year-old man suspected to be involved in producing babies for sale.

The ‘baby factory’ suspects, who were arrested at Igwuruta in Ikwerre Local Government Area, on July 5, 2014, were identified as Odinchinma Nwala (25), Glory Anyanwu (22), Goodness Nwankwo (19), and Stanley Okechukwu (male, 36).

The Divisional Police Officer of Igwuruta Police Station, Mr. Bello Muhammed, told newsmen that they were able to apprehend the suspects after being alerted by well meaning Nigerians.

Muhammed, a Chief Superintendent of Police, explained that it got signals that someone was operating a baby factory in Umuehe in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area.Continue..

Why I killed my father- Student

Tolani Ajayi, the 21year old Redeemer University student who hacked his father to death on Tuesday July 3rd , has finally spoken to reporters about what led him to kill his own dad. Speaking to journalists today at the Eleweran Police Headquarters, Abeokuta, Tolani said he attacked his father after he (the father) beat him with a stick, which he said made him very angry.

"There is no way Nigerians can help me. I am going to face my judgement. I am meant to pay for what I have done. It is not as if I am ready, it is something that is inevitable - something that is going to happen; I am just waiting for it.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. when the church would have been sleeping by then. It was anger that led me to this. There was an argument between us and I stood up to him. He beat me with a stick and bit me with his teeth repeatedly. Just the two of us were at home; my mother was in Abuja,” he said. Continue...
