Explosion rocks Dankwambo’s residence

Two soldiers were feared dead following a bomb explosion yesterday in the personal residence of Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State.

Residents in the area said they were jolted when an armoured tank was ripped open  by the bomb.

Sources told Daily Sun that the explosion happened at about 6:20pm and the area was immediately cordoned off by soldiers and other security agents. However, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dankwambo on Media, Mansur Lawan, sent a text message, stating that there was an accidental discharge from an armoured tank stationed in front of Dankwambo’s personal residence.

As at the time of filing this report, police, fire service and military personnel were busy evacuating the victims of the incident.

A resident of the area, who identified himself as Mohammed, said he saw the amoured tank on fire and a man’s hand that was chopped off by the bomb.

He said he was at the Pantami Stadium watching a football match when he heard of the explosion and ran to the scene. Mohammed alleged that he was manhandled by military personnel on duty at the scene of the incident even though he identified himself, adding that when he showed his identification card, the soldiers collected it.

Efforts to confirm the incident from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Fwaje Atajiri, failed as his lines were switched off.
