Prostitute sells baby for N20,000 in Bayelsa

An unnamed commercial sex worker in Yenagoa metropolis, Bayelsa State, has sold her one-day-old baby for N20,000.

While some people said the prostitute was delivered of the baby on Sunday, others claimed she gave birth last week.

It was learnt that the prostitute was said to have arranged for the buyer of the baby before delivery.

It was further learnt that as soon as she was delivered of the baby, the buyer, said to have come from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, came on Monday to take the baby.

The prostitute was said to have sold the baby to avoid inconveniences and distraction.

When contacted, spokesman for the Bayelsa Police Command, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, said police had traced the matter to Rivers State.Continue...

He said, “I am aware. We got a report that a commercial sex worker sold her baby to a woman in Port Harcourt. The police are on their way to effect the recovery of the baby and arrest the family that bought the child.”

“Right now, Yenagoa Police Division is handling the investigation. Later it will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.”

Meanwhile, the residents of Yenagoa metropolis have raised the alarm over the rising incidence of robbery and burglary by a criminal syndicate.

The syndicate was said to be using a special powder suspected to be anaesthetics known as Ketamine.

Some of the victims, including an employee of the Niger Delta University Hospital in the Okolobiri area of the state, had his house burgled.

The employee, who craved anonymity, said, “What we noticed was a residue of white-powdered substance by the window. The burglary windows were cut and their footprints were noticed on the powder they blew into the house to make us fall into a deep sleep.”

Akhigbe, told our correspondent that though the report of such development had not been made known by victims, “we will investigate and ensure that the criminals are apprehended.”
