Thugs Attack Katsina Village, Set Barns Ablaze
Suspected political thugs yesterday attacked residents at Majigiri village of Mashi Local Government Area in Katsina State and set ablaze storage barns containing foodstuff of undisclosed amount.
Residents alleged that the thugs are members of the opposition party, APC on campaign mission adding that the attacks occurred under the watchful eyes of the APC candidate for Daura senatorial seat, Engr Mustapha Bukar.
But the APC Senate candidate refuted the allegation saying there was no way his team could have attacked the community.”I wonder how we can attack a place where we went to seek for their votes” he said.
However, eyewitness said the thugs who came to the village for campaigns, were armed with knives, matchetes and other dangerous weapons.
It was gathered that the attackers brutally injured five persons, including a title holder in the village.
Among those injured was 25-year-old Lawal Aliyu who sustained a deep cut on his cheek. He alleged that the attackers tried effortlessly to stab him in the stomach but “God saved me or else I would have been dead by now.”
Speaking to our correspondent on behalf of the residents, one Bashir Abdulkarim whose storage barn was set ablaze, said the thugs entered the village chanting political slogans just as they made uncomplimentary remarks about residents of the village.
He said, “Suddenly they started throwing stones at us when they realised our minds are made up about who to vote,” while insisting that the attack was unprovoked.
