Security guard stops suicide bombing of hotel in kano

A security guard (names withheld) attached to a newly commissioned Hotel Resort, Sunday, night frustrated what would have been a mass murder when he halted the suicide bomber from parking at the hotel garage.

This was even as the police discovered another primed vehicle abandoned on Tafawa Balewa Road within the Central Business District of the metropolis barely two hours after the explosion.

The guard told Vanguard that, “I had a heated argument with the man who came in a bus car (Siena) trying to force his way into a space within a range of cars already parked at the hotel premises.

“In annoyance, I saw him reverse rudely and speed off and just some 200 metres away from my duty-post I heard a loud bang that sent me sprawling on the ground, only to recover and find out later that the man I had just engaged in shout-out was dead.

‘’When I came to my senses, I realised everywhere was dark and there was total confusion as I could hear wailing and sobbing of people, some scampering to safety in the ensuing pandemonium. I saw people, many struggling to escape the scene, but could not because of the degree of injury they sustained,” they guard said.

Corroborating the guard’s testimony, another eyewitness told Vanguard that, “we were counting the dead in two digit today. Thank God for the smartness of this security guard, the deathtoll would have been much higher.”

“The car exploded by the Maisuya joint. The suya man died on the spot along with three customers who were with him to purchase a barbeque that fateful night.”

Meanwhile, barely two hours after the explosion, the police discovered another primed vehicle abandoned on Tafawa Balewa Road within the Central Business District of Kano metropolis.

State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba , who inspected the scene of the incident, Sunday night, said that items recovered from the abandoned vehicle included two gas cylinders, a jerry can of fuel and wires.

He stated that the purported primed vehicle might have been abandoned on Tafawa Balewa Road by the terrorists for one reason or other, adding that investigations would reveal the real motive for the action.
